score Gore "Don't be a whore for Gore," read the signs outside of the Seattle convention center during the Unity'99 conference.
Camped out on the sidewalk, three supporters of presidential hopeful Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr. (who has run for president since 1976) are passing out booklets that compare the vice president to Adolf Hitler. The trio is a daily fixture for convention-goers streaming into the convention center. "We want to get journalists to ask why Al Gore is committing genocide against blacks in South Africa," said Ed Malik, a political organizer for LaRouche's presidential campaign. The protesters complained that Gore is supporting sanctions that prevent the manufacturing of generic AIDS drugs in Africa and is therefore causing the unnecessary deaths of millions of Africans. Gore is scheduled to address Unity 99 at a plenary session Friday on the topic "Race, Technology and the Future of the United States."
